About

Texas Country/Red Dirt Band

The Nate Danner Band is a mix of country and rock n roll music with a little splash of blues on the side, considered somewhere between Texas country and red dirt music.  With hearts set on original creativity, they are always hard at work at putting together fun two-steppin’ dancehall style music with a little edge to go on the side.

With influences spanning from Cross Canadian Ragweed, Merle Haggard, Lynryd Skynyrd to Metallica, you never know what they might be up to with their next original track.  The band is currently working hard on a new album that will feature some very creative original songs, release date TBD.

The band consists of lead vocals and rhythm guitar by Nate Danner, bass guitar and vocals by Michael Smegner, drums by Jose Leatham and lead guitar and vocals by Brad Cliburn.  The mixture of what they all bring together creates a very fun and dynamic sound as they all bring their own unique styles to the overall collective sound.

The Nate Danner Band is currently still working on material, to include some spicy cover songs, and will hopefully be ready soon to take a stage near you.  Give Me Texas Or Give Me Death. NDB…

Rhythm Guitar & Vocals

Nate Danner is from Arlington, Texas.  He first picked up the acoustic guitar in 1998 with a desire to learn how to play some Metallica tunes. His dad brought home his first guitar from a Sam’s club that was selling acoustic classical guitars.  He recalls that being one of best days of his life as he was so happy and thankful for the thoughtful gift.  His dad said, I know it isn’t exactly the guitar you may have wanted, but it is a place to start.  Nate ended up re-stringing it with normal acoustic strings, and played it every day during his senior year of high school, only to find one afternoon after school, he came home and found the bridge had busted from the pressure from the incorrect type of strings being used.  Thus, launching a search at guitar center for his next guitar.

His biggest musical influences were a range from multiple genres, to include but not limited to: Metallica, Pantera, Van Halen, Limp Bizkit, Heart, George Strait, Merle Haggard, Don Williams, Bobby Darin, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Credence Clearwater Revival, Lynryd Skynyrd, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Pat Green, Randy Rogers Band, Turnpike Troubadours, Shane Smith & The Saints.

Music is medicine for Nate, and writing, singing and getting to create music with other musicians is what he describes as being outside of this world.

Lead Guitar & Vocals

Brad Cliburn grew up in the rural farmlands of central Illinois where his family kept horses and occasional other livestock. He did daywork for surrounding farmers and learned the value of hard work.

His love affair for music started when he began playing trumpet at 10 years old. However, it was when he was 12 that he got his hands on his first guitar.  With a group of other music-minded friends, he played his first paying gig at age 13 and played weekly around central Illinois after that. Brad has been playing now for decades.

Lots of musical influences impact Brad’s playing style – mostly blues and southern rock and roll (Dickey Betts from the Allman Bros., Toy Caldwell from the Marshall Tucker Band, Eric Clapton, Joe Walsh to name a few) and country (Dwight Yoakum, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Hank Williams Sr, and the like). From that background, he was drawn immediately to Red Dirt Music and hearing the Turnpike Troubadours for the first time sealed it for him.

Brad and his wife Lynda, recently moved to Texas to fully enjoy their Texas state of mind.  Shortly after settling in, Brad answered a posting that Nate put up looking for a guitar player. “I feel really blessed to have landed with Nate and the band.  Great songs, great fun, great time!”

“‘Give Me Texas Or Give Me Death’; It means life is too short. Death comes to us all, so give it everything you’ve got. Especially for the stuff that means the most to you; God, freedom, heartbeat, family, friends, community, loyalty, music, Texas, USA.”
